Trump „shared classified information“ with Russia

White House officials have flatly rejected media reports that President Donald Trump shared highly classified information about the so-called Islamic State group with Russia's foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, during talks last week. Greg Jaffe is one of the Washington Post journalists who broke the story: "Trump in a meeting with the Russian foreign minister and the Russian ambassador was describing the threat posed by laptops on airplanes and disclosed key sort of details from an intelligence partner that were classified and he shouldn´t have shared with the Russians and that the partner would certainly be upset about." The Russian foreign ministry says the reports are "fake."

Turkey´s president visits Washington

Turkey has reportedly ordered the arrest of 85 energy and education ministry staff in an investigation targeting the network of a US-based cleric whom Ankara accuses of orchestrating last year´s attempted coup. Some 50,000 people have been formally arrested in cases targeting supporters of cleric Fethullah Gulen. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is meeting his US counterpart Donald Trump in Washington later today, is seeking Gulen's extradition.

Macron to announce cabinet line-up

France's new president, Emmanuel Macron, has called for an "historic reconstruction" of Europe, saying it is "the only reaction" to fight populism. He is expected to announce his cabinet line-up today.

Austria will go to the polls in October

Austria is heading for early elections in October, following the break-down of the grand coalition between the Social Democrats and the conservative People´s Party. All political parties are expected to approve a formal proposal for a snap election tomorrow. The outgoing coalition has agreed to work together to implement projects already agreed and a bitter row over who should serve as vice chancellor has now been resolved.

Possible North Korea link to massive cyber-attack

Cybersecurity experts have found evidence they say could link North Korea with the cyber-attack that has infected over 300,000 computers worldwide. They say the code used in the attack shared many similarities with previous hacks attributed to the North Korea-linked Lazarus Group.

Assad accused of using crematorium for mass killings

The US administration has accused the Syrian government of installing a crematorium in a military prison in order to destroy the remains of thousands of murdered prisoners. The State Department says it has surveillance photographs which suggest the Assad regime modified a building within the Saydnaya complex in 2013 to burn the bodies.
