EU says 3 countries have special responsibility to sort out Syria

The European Union has called on Russia, Iran and Turkey to ensure a halt to fighting in Syria, as international donors continue meetings in Brussels to gather several billion euros in financial aid for the war-torn country and neighbouring countries helping to accommodate refugees. EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said the three countries have a "special responsibility" to establish a cease-fire and to press Syrian President Bashar Assad to return to the negotiating table.

Iran says Trump unqualified to handle nuclear deal

As French President Emmanuel Macron continues his state visit to the US, Iran's president, Hassan Rouhani, has sharply criticized bi-lateral talks in Washington on Tehran's nuclear agreement... dismissing Donald Trump as a "tradesman" who lacks the qualifications to deal with a complex international pact. Macron flew to Washington to try to persuade Trump not to scrap the 2015 agreement - under which Iran curbed its nuclear program in return for the lifting of sanctions. Macron says the deal brings stability to the Middle East: "This is the only way to guarantee sovereignty in the region and to build in the very long run. Otherwise we will have to come back in the region because of new terrorist groups - for sure. I am very happy about the discussion we had together, because we raised very new issues and very new issues together."

Protests grow amid power vacuum in Armenia

Mass protests are growing larger in Armenia amid a power struggle that has left the country with no clear leadership. After two weeks of anti-government protests, Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan has stepped down and appointed an ally as interim leader. But, Nikol Pashinian, who has led the protest movement and emerged as challenger for the leadership has called on all his supporters to come out in force: "After the elections in 2017, we insisted that there wasn't any free expression of the will of the Armenian people. So there is no legitimacy of the ruling party or the current ruling parliamentary majority."

Copenhagen court to rule on submarine murder

A verdict is shortly in Copenhagen on whether Danish inventor Peter Madsen tortured and murdered a Swedish journalist during a private submarine trip last year. Madsen is charged with murder, dismemberment and indecent handling of a corpse over the death of Kim Wall. Madsen has denied murder and said Wall died accidentally inside the submarine, but has confessed to throwing her body parts into the sea.

Germany holds march against anti-Semitism

AND, this evening, people will gather in the German capital, Berlin, for a solidarity march against anti-Semitism... under the banner "Berlin Wears Kippah". It comes after the leader of Germany's Jewish community advised Jews to avoid wearing the traditional skullcaps. Last week, two young men wearing the traditional skullcaps were assaulted in the capital.
