Beach Boys versus Beatles. Gestaltung: Klaus Wienerroither

Das 1965 erschienene "Rubber soul" markiert eine Art Wendepunkt in der einzigartigen Karriere der Fab Four aus Liverpool. Mit dieser Platte endet die "naive" Phase der Beatles, in der sie mit ihren mitreißenden, zumeist fröhlichen Songs die Welt erobert haben. Nicht nur die "normalen" Popkonsument/innen sind von dem gleichermaßen vielseitigen wie konzisen Album "Rubber Soul" begeistert. Brian Wilson, der kreative Kopf der Beach Boys, ist hin und weg, als er die Platte zum ersten Mal hört. Diese musikalische Herausforderung animiert Wilson zu dem am 16. Mai 1966 veröffentlichten Album "Pet Sounds". Es belegt in der Liste der "500 besten Alben aller Zeiten" der Zeitschrift "Rolling Stone" den 2. Platz. Gleich dahinter auf Platz 3 das am 5. August 1966 veröffentlichte Beatles Album "Revolver". Vor einem halben Jahrhundert hatte die Popmusik wohl eine kreative Hochphase.
