Seit ihrem Erstlingswerk besticht die Singer-Songwriterin Jolie Holland durch ihre eigenwillige, schwer einzuordnende Stimme, leicht neben der Spur, schwermütig und authentisch.
Einst Mitbegründerin der The Be Good Tanyas hat die gebürtige Texanerin uramerikanische Spielarten populärer Musik durchdekliniert und für sich neu definiert. Blues, Country, Folk und Jazzanklänge finden sich in den reduzierten bis opulenten Arrangements ihrer sechs Solo-Alben. Im Wohnzimmer produzierte sie 2003 ihre erste CD "Catalpa", woraufhin sie ein Label unter Vertrag nahm. Es folgten fünf weitere Alben, auf denen sie mitunter auch in die Rolle der Interpretin schlüpft. Ihr Anliegen: Songs ohne Ablaufdatum.
