Wirklich brachial geht es bei ihnen nur selten zu - im Gegensatz zu manchen Kollegen aus dem Genre. Allein die Flöte, die da immer wieder zu hören ist, hat wenig von "Southern", "Rock" oder "Country" an sich, und auch die leicht jazzigen Klänge, die da gelegentlich mitten in den Songs auftauchen, sind wohl nicht das täglich Brot hartgesottener Rednecks.
Aber genau diese stilistische Offenheit, dieses subtile Einschmelzen von Klängen aus Jazz, Gospel oder R&B - bei gleichzeitigem Fokus auf einem treibenden, hochenergetischen und leicht fassbaren, rockigen Countrygroove - machen die Marshall Tucker Band aus South Carolina zu unbestrittenen Meistern ihres Fachs "Southern Rock", das sie in den 1970er Jahren selbst mitentwickelt haben.
