US judge orders migrant family reunions

A judge in California has ruled that all families of illegal immigrants separated at the US border must be reunited within 30 days. The judge said children under five must be back with their parents within 14 days. Around 2000 families are affected. Ahilan Arulanantham is the legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union in California: "The order also requires the government to arrange for phone calls between the parents and children within ten days, and it requires the various federal agencies to cooperate with each other to share information quickly."

US Supreme Court upholds Trump’s travel ban

President Trump has welcomed a Supreme Court ruling which has upheld his controversial travel ban affecting people from several Muslim-majority countries. Lower courts said the policy - which prohibits most people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen from entering the US - was unconstitutional. There have been protests at the Supreme Court's ruling. Farhana Khera is from Muslim Advocates: "After repeated statements of outright bigotry by the President of the United States, as he enacts a policy discriminating against Muslims - this court decided to ignore that religious bigotry."

Czech president appoints new government

The Czech President, Milos Zeman, has appointed Andrej Babis as the head of a new administration. It's the second time the controversial politician has tried to form a government - since his party won the largest share of the vote in last October's elections. Babis still faces criminal charges for allegedly misusing EU funds, and has been accused of collaborating with the Communist-era secret police - both of which he denies. Babis said his new government will fight against illegal immigration.

German crisis talks fail to resolve migrant row

In Germany, crisis talks between Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats, her Bavarian allies the CSU, and the Social Democrats, have failed to resolve a row over immigration. Germany's Interior Minister, Horst Seehofer, wants to turn asylum seekers back at the border - if they've already registered in another EU country. He's told Merkel he will close Germany's borders if she can't agree a Europe-wide solution at the two-day EU summit that begins in Brussels tomorrow.

Poland scraps Holocaust law jail threat

Poland's government is watering down the country's Holocaust law - which had sparked a diplomatic crisis with the United States and Israel. It's removing criminal provisions for those who've accused the Polish state or people of complicity in crimes against the Jews. Israel feared that the law would be used for historical revisionism.
