Trump says Germany is controlled by Russia

The US President Donald Trump has criticised Germany, before what's expected to be a fractious NATO summit in Brussels. He said it was totally inappropriate that Berlin was paying billions of dollars to Russia for oil and gas, while spending so little on its own defence budget. Trump wants all NATO members to commit a minimum of two percent of GDP to defence by 2024. He said the 40 billion dollars of increased contributions to NATO since he came into office was not enough: "Many countries owe us a tremendous amount of money, for many years back - where they're delinquent as far as I'm concerned, because the United States has had to pay for them."

US government fails to meet court-imposed deadline

The US government says it will not be able to meet a court-imposed deadline to re-unite more than 100 immigrant children under 5 years old with their families. The children were separated from their parents on the US-Mexican border and are being held under a highly controversial Trump administration policy. The US government says 34 children will re-join their families by the end of today, but others cannot for logistical reasons. Lee Gelernt represents the American Civil Liberties Union which filed the lawsuit: "We are extremely disappointed that the government looks like they're not going to reunify all the eligible children today, and that they've not even tracked down the removed parents."

China ‘shocked’ by US trade actions

China says it's shocked by US plans for further tariffs on Chinese imports worth two hundred billion dollars. Beijing called the measures unacceptable bullying - and warned they will hurt US interests, as well as those of China and the rest of the world.

German Neo-Nazi given life for murders

A court in Munich has found a Neo-Nazi sympathiser, Beate Zschäpe, guilty of ten counts of murder and sentenced her to life in jail. The court was ruling in the case of a Neo-Nazi gang involved in a string of racist killings, dating back to the year 2000. Prosecutors say Beate Zschäpe was part of the National Socialist Underground cell, which killed nine Turkish and Greek-born immigrants and a German police woman.

Rescued Thai boys in good health

Thai health officials say the 12 young footballers who were rescued from a flooded cave network are all in good health - despite losing around 2 kilograms each in weight. The officials said the boys showed no signs of stress after their two week ordeal. A Spanish diver who helped to save the boys said they were given drugs to help calm them before their dramatic rescue.
