Simply Words (radio edit)_ is a polymorph sound piece.
I created it in 2014 as a premiere of a sound creation for the Rosenfeld-Porcini Gallery in London.
I suggested to the visitors that they position themselves in a posture that would resemble what they would do while listening to the radio in their own homes, but inside the luminous gallery space
They sat on chairs and armchairs, laid on sofas, on benches and on cushions placed on the ground or stood against walls…
The sound diffusion is a multiple channel.

Since this first shared listening, it regularly accompanies my sound exhibitions through different forms.
One of these forms was by listening to the sound piece on a vinyl disc, comfortably sat in the intimacy of a reconstituted living room. There, I used a vinyl disc player that enabled the disc to repeat itself an infinite amount of times. Another time, by putting our ear to a door of a house, of in a public place. We can hear these voices resonating in the wood, the glass, the metal of these doors. Sometimes they are also everyday objects that transmit the voices, or they come from inside a metal box.
All this is made possible by an audio-exiter.
Listening is also urban, with QR code stickers placed in public places giving us access to continuous listening to the long version of Simply Words via an app.

I composed this vocal piece by combining writing on a piece of paper, a graphic organizational work with words picked randomly from my readings, a sonorous typograph work, a play on words that became a play on sounds, a Hörspiel.
The game is composed of 100 words that are reorganized in the way that the artist Brion Gysin made cut-ups then experimented by the American writer William S. Burroughs. An original text is cut into aleatory fragments that are then rearranged to create a new text.
Here the text doesn’t exist literally, the auditor is mentally composing it while listening to it.

The words chosen are linked with verbal communication, sounds, rhythms, the music of words and voices.
I asked a dozen people, men and women of different linguistic origins to read the words.
With a sound editing software, I created a dialog between words as well as movement by suggesting a game of associations with collages.
This, generated words repeated by different voices and to vocal choruses.
This put each voice in relation to another voice, each word to another word.
This is about weaving a network putting voices and people in relation to words.

The interpreters are not voice professionals.
I record them in their immediate environment.
I discover them in haphazard encounters.
They do not know each other.
I invite them to meet each other during the first listening.
Each time I revive this listening proposal by recording new voices with the words of the first creation.

The languages of the composition and of the transition are English and French. The pronunciation of the French words plays with the sonorities of the English words and inversely.

This project come from my determination to create links between people, to create experiences of proximity, network, to diffuse experimental sound contents.
My other works and installations contribute to this same will.
