Kerry in Vienna for nuclear talks

The American Secretary of State John Kerry is in Vienna for talks on Iran’s disputed nuclear programme with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and the European Union´s High Representative for foreign policy, Catherine Ashton. Negotiations between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany are due to conclude by a self-imposed deadline of November 24. Iran has said the Vienna talks could help pave the way for a final agreement.

New Ebola case in Texas

The Texas Department of State Health Services says a second healthcare worker has tested positive for Ebola. The worker had reportedly treated the first patient in the United States to be diagnosed with the virus, Thomas Eric Duncan, who died last week. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization is warning that there could be 10, 000 new cases a month within two months if international efforts to contain the current outbreak are not stepped up. Tony Banbury is the United Nations Coordinator for Ebola: "Ebola got a head start on us. It is far ahead of us. It is running faster than us and it is winning the race. We either stop Ebola now or we face an entirely unprecedented situation for which we do not have a plan."

Putin to discuss Ukraine during Milan summit

The Kremlin says that President Vladimir Putin will have a series of meetings focusing on Ukraine during his trip to Milan for this week's Europe-Asia summit. It´ll be Putin´s first chance to discuss the Ukraine crisis with Western leaders since June, when he attended D-Day anniversary events in France.

HK police to investigate ´beating`

Hong Kong´s police authorities are to investigate reports of excessive force, after local TBV television showed a prominent pro-democracy protester being punched and kicked by six plain clothes officers. Hundreds of riot police clashed with demonstrators they were trying to remove from an underpass near the government headquarters on Tuesday night. Dozens of people were arrested.

German train drivers strike

Members of Germany´s train drivers' union are set to begin a 14-hour nationwide strike at two o'clock this afternoon. The action will also have a knock-on effect for rail travel in and out of Austria. The train drivers are demanding higher wages and shorter working hours.

Serbia-Albania football match abandoned

A football match between Serbia and Albania had to be abandoned on Tuesday after a drone carrying an Albanian banner sparked clashes involving players and fans during the Euro 2016 qualifier in Belgrade. Police in Vienna were deployed in the city's 16th district in a major operation to keep rival football supporters from Serbia and Albania apart in the wake of the unrest in Belgrade.
