Iran talks face deadline

Talks aimed at reaching a preliminary agreement on Iran's nuclear programme are continuing in Switzerland. Foreign ministers from 6 countries and their Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif are taking part in the meeting which is aimed at restricting Tehran's nuclear programme in exchange for relief from sanctions. A deadline had been set for today. Mark Fitzpatrick is an analyst from the International Institute for Strategic Studies: "I'm beginning to think that we won't get the deal today. March 31st was a self-imposed deadline. And it can be self-postponed. But I do think we'll see a deal in the next week."

Donor summit for Syria

An international donor summit on the humanitarian crisis in Syria is underway in Kuwait. Representatives from around 70 countries are taking part. According to UN figures over 220,000 people have died in the conflict - which is now in its fifth year - and 11 million people displaced.

Vote counting continues in Nigeria

Partial results from Nigeria's presidential election appear to put former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari in the lead ahead of the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan. A final tally is expected later today. Johnnie Carson is the head of the international monitoring team: "the people have spoken clearly for democracy. It's important that their political leaders understand that the interests of the country and the interests of the people are more important than their own personal interests."

17 die in heavy rains in Kashmir

Officials in Kashmir say 17 people have died in heavy rains and a landslide. Emergency teams are continuing to rescue those who've been stranded in the Himalayan region.

So far only the European Union, Switzerland and Mexico have unveiled their pledges on global warming. An international agreement is due to be finalized at a meeting in Paris at the end of this year.
