Trump casts doubt on N Korea summit
The US President Donald Trump says it's possible that a planned summit with the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un may not go ahead on June 12th. Earlier this month, Pyongyang threatened to pull out of the scheduled meeting in Singapore if Washington insisted it give up its nuclear weapons unilaterally. At talks with the South Korean president Moon Jae-in at the White House, Trump made this statement to reporters: "there's a chance that it'll work out. There's a chance - there's a very substantial chance - that it won't work out. I don't want to waste a lot of time. And I'm sure he doesn't want to waste a lot of time. So there's a very substantial chance that it won't work out and that's ok - that doesn't mean it won't work out over a period of time." In another development, a group of foreign journalists have departed by train to watch the dismantling of a nuclear test site in North Korea.
3 more activists detained in Saudi Arabia
International rights watchdogs say at least 3 more women's rights activists have been arrested in Saudi Arabia. Last week, it was reported that 7 people had been detained. The crackdown comes just weeks before a ban on women driving is due to be lifted. Amnesty International has called on the Saudi authorities to give information as to where the detainees are being held and what the charges are.
Mark Zuckerberg faces MEPs
The founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has apologised to EU parliamentarians for the company's role in the Cambridge Analytica data scandal. Appearing before a committee of MEPs, he said preventing interference in democratic elections was one of his company's top priorities and that Facebook was closing down fake accounts, combating fake news and increasing transparency about advertising: "it's also become clear over the last couple of years that we haven't done enough to prevent these tools from being used for harm as well. And that goes for fake news, foreign interference in elections and developers misusing people's information. We didn't take a broad enough view of our responsibility. And that was a mistake. And I'm sorry for it." However his testimony did not please all MEPs who took part in the meeting, with some saying they felt he had avoided some of their questions.
US literary giant Philip Roth dies
The Pulitzer-prize winning US author Philip Roth has died at the age of 85. He first found success with his short story collection, "Goodbye Columbus" which was published in 1959. His other well-known works included "American Pastoral", "I Married a Communist" and "Portnoy's Complaint".
