Huge manhunt for Boston suspect

Police investigating the Boston Marathon bomb attacks say one of two suspects in the case has died after a shoot-out and car chase through a city suburb. Officials say the suspects threw explosives and fired at police pursuing them before one of them was shot. The second suspect escaped and a massive police operation is underway in the suburb of Watertown. Officials have also shut down Boston's public transport system whilst the manhunt continues. It's thought the suspects high-jacked the car they used after shooting dead a police officer on the campus of the nearby Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The developments follow the release of photographs of the suspects. Dr Richard Wolfe from Boston emergency services says the suspect who died was brought in with multiple wounds including blast and gunshot injuries.

Telescope leads to planet discovery

Scientists using NASA's Kepler space telescope say they've identified two planets capable of supporting life. They're believed to be beyond the solar system and appear to be orbiting a star 1,200 light-years away. Paul Hertz is NASA's director of astrophysics: "this is a gradual path that Kepler's been taking us down and today's exciting announcement takes us even closer to that goal of finding habitable planets around other stars."

The weather
