Gaza death toll tops 800

Palestinian leaders have called for a "day of anger," as the death toll in the Gaza Strip rises to 815. Two Palestinians were killed in overnight clashes with Israeli police during mass protests in the West Bank, just north of Jerusalem. 13 people also died and scores were injured when a UN-run school used as a shelter came under fire in Gaza on Thursday. Women, children and UN staff were reportedly among those killed. Bob Turner is a senior UN official in Gaza: "There are now about 150,000 people living in our schools, that´s eight per cent of the population living in our schools. This can´t continue. We need to see a ceasefire. We need to see an end to the violence." Israel has said it regrets the death of innocent civilians, but it has to protect its own citizens from militant rocket attacks from Gaza. 34 Israelis have died since the offensive began.

No survivors in Air Algerie crash

The wreckage of a plane that disappeared with 116 people on board on a flight from Burkina Faso to Algiers has been found in Mali. There were reportedly no survivors. Contact with the plane was lost early on Thursday after pilots reported severe storms. 51 French citizens were among those on board the Air Algerie flight.

Ukraine´s prime minister resigns

The Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk resigned Thursday after two parties said they would pull out of the governing coalition. Meanwhile, the US State Department says it has evidence that Russia has fired artillery across the border targeting Ukrainian military positions. The Netherlands and Australia are preparing to send military police to eastern Ukraine, as efforts continue to find the last of the crash victims from Malasyia Airlines flight MH17.

14 killed in Afghan bus attacks

Officials in Afghanistan say 14 Shiite civilians were shot dead after suspected Taliban insurgents halted two minibuses and questioned those on board near the capital, Kabul. The victims - including three women and a child - were from the minority Hazara community, which has been targeted by the Taliban in the past. The other passengers were reportedly released.

Arizona halts executions pending review

The US state of Arizona has halted executions pending a review of its death penalty procedures, after the allegedly botched lethal injection of a convicted murderer on Wednesday. Lawyers acting for Joseph Wood say he took almost two hours to die.
