Tunisia vows to fight terrorism
The Tunisian president Beji Caid Essebsi has vowed to fight terrorism quote "without mercy", a day after gunmen stormed the national museum in the capital Tunis, killing 20 foreign tourists and three Tunisian nationals. Security forces killed two gunmen but are continuing the search for accomplices. One of the attackers was reportedly known to the country´s intelligence services. No group has yet claimed responsibility. Mehrezia Labidi is a member of the Tunisian parliament: "The challenges are big, but all Tunisians now are uniting against terrorism and we need the world to stand next to us."
IS ´may have committed genocide` in Iraq
The United Nations human rights office says that Islamic State fighters may have committed genocide against the minority Yezidi community in Iraq as well as crimes against humanity and war crimes against civilians, including children. In a report based on interviews with more than 100 alleged victims and witnesses, it urged the UN Security Council to refer the situation to the International Criminal Court for the prosecution of the perpetrators. The report also said Iraqi government forces and affiliated militias may have committed some war crimes while battling the insurgency.
Greece to overshadow EU summit
Greece has warned it could run out of money within weeks unless it can secure an extension of its bailout with international creditors. The Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is due to hold crisis talks later in Brussels with the leaders of Germany, France and European Union institutions. The two-day summit of EU leaders will also focus on the conflicts in Libya and Ukraine, plans for an EU energy union and negotiations with the United States over the controversial TTIP free trade agreement.
The US responds to Netanyahu re-election
The US has criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for abandoning his commitment to negotiate for a Palestinian state and for what it called "divisive" campaign rhetoric towards minority Arab voters. In its first public response to Netanyahu's re-election, the White House signalled that its deep disagreements with Netanyahu will persist on issues ranging from Middle East peace- making to nuclear negotiations with Iran.
Al-Shabab leader killed in US drone strike
The US defence department has confirmed that it has killed the al-Shabab leader Adan Garar. The Pentagon says he was hit in a drone strike in southern Somalia on Friday. Garar was a suspect in the 2013 Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi that left 67 people dead.
