Arrests in Belgium anti-terror raids

Belgian officials say they've made 16 arrests in anti-terror raids. However, they say one of the main suspects in the Paris attacks Salah Abdeslam remains at large and that the searches failed to find any weapons or explosives. Brussels remains on the highest level of terror alert with schools, universities and the metro system staying closed. Meanwhile, the French President Francois Hollande and British Prime Minister David Cameron have been holding talks in Paris on the campaign against the IS group. Cameron said he was convinced the UK should carry out military air strikes alongside France and others in Syria, but that it was a decision for parliament to make. He also said they'd agreed to step up efforts on information sharing: "we face a shared threat and we must share information and intelligence to better protect ourselves from these brutal terrorists. The UK and France are already doing this but today we've agreed to step up our efforts even further and to work more closely with our European neighbours."

Opposition wins Argentina's elections

The conservative politician Mauricio Macri has been confirmed as the winner in Argentina's presidential elections. His victory is the first in more than a decade for the centre-right opposition. Macri told supporters that Argentina was entering a new era.

100 missing after Myanmar landslide

In Myanmar, hopes are fading of finding more than 100 people believed to be still missing after a landslide near a jade mine in the north of the country. The disaster was caused by a massive heap of mining debris which collapsed. Over 100 bodies have been recovered.

Health experts criticise Ebola response

An independent panel of health experts has strongly criticised the local and international response to the recent Ebola epidemic which killed more than 11,000 people. In a report published in the medical journal The Lancet it said there had been a failure of leadership and that major reforms were needed to prevent future disasters. One of the experts on the panel Ashish K Jha said there had been major failures in the World Health Organisation's handling of the crisis: "W.H.O. was very slow in responding to the outbreak. It has a very specific responsibility to call something a public health emergency of international consequence. It was extremely slow in doing that."

Morocco builds giant solar plant

Preparations are underway in Morocco to open a giant solar plant using energy from the sun. The move is part of the country's promise to get 42% of its electricity from renewable energy forms by 2020. The developers say phase one of the plan will bring energy to a million people.
