Gauck will not seek second term

German President, Joachim Gauck, confirmed a short time ago that he will not seek a second term in office. After speculation surfaced over the weekend, he called a press conference which began a noon...where the popular 76-year old Head of State explained that due to his age and health problems

Terror attack in Jordan targets officers

Three Jordanian intelligence officers and two other security personnel have been killed in an attack on a security office on the outskirts of the capital, Amman. The office is located inside a large refugee camp which houses around 70-thousand Palestinians. Islamic State militants are suspected of carrying out the attack.

Hollande warns of terror attacks

With the Euro 2016 Soccer Tournament scheduled to kick off on Friday evening in Paris, French President Francois Hollande has acknowledged the danger of terror attacks but appealed to spectators NOT to be intimidated into changing their lifestyles: "We can never allow ourselves to let this threat affect the way we live. It's a threat that exists and I wouldn't be in this position as president if I didn't tell you very clearly that there is a threat." The 4-week long soccer tournament is expected to draw around 2.5 million spectators. More than 90,000 security forces will be patrolling the events in France.

Ukraine thwarts terror attack

Ukraine's intelligence agency says it has thwarted a plot to attack soccer's European Championships in France by arresting a Frenchman who wanted to cross from Ukraine into the European Union. The SBU said in a statement it had followed the man since December and allowed him to purchase five machine guns, two rocket propelled grenades and other weapons before he was arrested on the border between Ukraine and Poland last month.

Cause for train crash in Belgium remains unknown

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of train collision overnight in Belgium which left three people dead and injured nine more - some of them critically. A late-night passenger train was travelling at about 90 kilometers per hour when it slammed into a halted freight train in the east of the country near Liege.

Scientists growing human organs in pigs

Scientists in the United States have announced progress on a controversial new way of dealing with the chronic shortage of human organs for medical transplants. They are aiming to grow human organs inside pigs have now successfully created part-human, part-pig embryos. Dr. Scott Fahrenkrug is one of those working on the project: "Pigs are just a lot like us. They have the same physiology we do. Their chromosomes are actually pretty similarly structured to our."
