Samsung heir jailed for corruption
A court in South Korea has sentenced the head of the technology giant Samsung to five years in prison for corruption. The company's billionaire heir-apparent Jay Y. Lee had been accused of paying bribes in the hope of obtaining political favours from the then South Korean president Park Geun-hye who was impeached as part of the same scandal. Lee, who's been in detention since February, had denied the accusations.
Former PM reportedly flees Thailand
Reports coming out of Thailand say the former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has fled the country. She failed to show up for the verdict in her trial over a subsidy scheme for rice farmers where she was accused of criminal negligence. Her lawyers said she had been unable to attend court because she was ill. The Supreme Court has issued an arrest warrant. This man is among hundreds of Shinawatra's supporters who have been waiting outside the court: "we still believe that Yingluck Shinawatra really carried out the rice scheme in the people and the farmers' interests. We do hope that justice will be bestowed on her. We're here to support her."

The planes were believed to be from a Saudi-led coalition which has been waging a campaign against the Houthi movement in the country.
