Market Gardening is one of the most promising answers to the challenges of our time. The concept of resource-saving organic vegetable production in garden-like structures is meant to truly revolutionize our local food supply. Through the optimized cultivation of small pieces of land by hand, the aim is to achieve the highest possible yields in a natural way, i.e. without mineral fertilizers and pesticides, while continuously improving soil fertility. Since 2019, GRAND GARTEN based in Lower Austria, has been striving to make the potential of Market Gardening visible and the craft learnable for anyone interested. As part of GRAND FARM, Austrias first research and demonstration farm, GRAND GARTEN is both market garden and outdoor laboratory. In close cooperation with scientists, practitioners and decision makers, it has been a core concern to anchor the concept of Market Gardening as the standard for local vegetable supply in every major locality, both at national and European level.
