The IAEA meets on Iran deal

The governing body of the International Atomic Energy Agency meets today in the Austrian capital, Vienna, to discuss the implementation of a landmark nuclear deal with Iran. Berlusconi expelled from the Senate

The former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has vowed to continue in politics despite his expulsion from parliament. The Italian Senate voted on Wednesday to bar him from holding office for at least six years because of his conviction for tax fraud. Berlusconi could now face arrest over other criminal cases as he has lost his immunity from prosecution. The Italian journalist Gianni Riotta says Berlusconi may be finished but his party is not: “It´s not the end for his political coalition that´s still in the centre right coalition and still enjoys up to 30 per cent of the votes in the polls, and of course they have now to select a new leader, and this won´t be easy and it won´t be pretty.”

The summit is likely to be dominated by Ukraine's surprise decision last week not to sign a free-trade and political association deal with the EU, opting instead to seek closer ties with Russia.

Thai PM appeals to protesters

Thailand's prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra has appealed to protesters to call off anti-government demonstrations and negotiate an end to the on-going political crisis. She made the plea after easily defeating a no-confidence vote in Parliament.
