Lutz Bachmann resigned on Wednesday after a newspaper printed a photograph of him posing as Adolf Hitler and reported that he had made racist slurs on Facebook. Meanwhile, thousands of PEGIDA supporters have marched in the eastern city of Leipzig at an anti-Islamisation rally. The march attracted only around 15,000 people, far fewer than originally estimated. Officials say over 20,000 joined several counter-demonstrations.

The British foreign minister Philip Hammond is hosting the summit: "We are renewing and regenerating the Iraqi security forces, re-equipping them, retraining them, reorganising them. But it will be months yet before they are ready to start significant combat operations against ISIL."
