Possible MH370 wing part examined

International experts are to begin a detailed examination of part of an aircraft wing that washed up on the island of Reunion last week and is thought to have belonged to the missing Malaysia Airlines plane. Turkey vows battle against IS

Turkey's Foreign Minister says a "comprehensive battle" is to be launched against the Islamic State group in Syria. Mevlut Cavusoglu said US aircraft and drones were arriving at Turkish air bases. Ankara formally approved the use of its bases by US and coalition aircraft late last month. The Syrian government says it supported efforts to fight IS, but said any military action must be coordinated with Damascus.

24 killed in India train disaster

Child casualties rise in Afghanistan

The United Nations says an increasing number of women and children are getting hurt or killed in the conflict in Afghanistan. It says the rise in casualties was due to fighting on the ground. The director of the UN's human rights unit in Afghanistan, Danielle Bell, said all parties to the conflict must make a commitment to protect civilians.

16 die in Russia traffic accident

Russian officials say at least 16 people have died in a traffic disaster in the far east of the country. Dozens of people were also injured when two buses collided on a highway. Some of the injured are said to be in a serious condition. Investigations are underway.

Syriza urges unity over debt deal

As talks continue between Greece and its international creditors, the parliamentary spokesman for the ruling Syriza party has urged party members to unite behind a new funding agreement. Nikos Filis says they're seeking a full bailout immediately rather than a bridging loan. The negotiators face a deadline of August 20th to reach a deal.
