Belgium extradites Paris attacks suspect

Salah Abdeslam, the chief suspect in last year´s Paris attacks which killed 130 people, will appear before French magistrates today after being extradited from Belgium. Abdeslam, who´s 26, was captured in Brussels last month, days before the deadly attacks there. He´s expected to be placed under formal investigation. It´s believed he arranged logistics for November´s attacks and had planned to blow himself up at a sports stadium in Paris but backed out at the last minute. The Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has won presidential primaries in all five US states that voted on Tuesday - Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

More victories for Trump and Clinton

Trump called himself the Republican´s presumptive nominee after the latest victories, despite being loathed by the party establishment: "Now look, I´m not changing. You know, I went to the best schools. I´m like a very smart person. I´m going to represent our country with dignity and very well." The Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton triumphed in four out of the five states. But her rival, Bernie Sanders, won in Rhode Island and vowed to fight to the end of the primaries process.

Strikes disrupt flights in Germany

Hundreds of flights have been cancelled in Germany after public sector workers started short-term strikes affecting airports in eight cities ahead of a new round of wage negotiations. Today´s action involves ground services, security checks, firefighting and check-in staff.

New elections in Spain set for June

Spanish voters will go to the polls again in June in a re-run of December´s inconclusive election after a final round of talks between the king and political parties failed to broker a deal on forming a coalition government. King Felipe said he would not propose any new candidate for Prime Minister, paving the way for the new vote on June 26.

Special summit to address Greek bailout problems

The European Council President Donald Tusk says that Euro zone finance ministers should meet on Greece within days to avoid renewed uncertainty over the country's ability to finance itself. The Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had requested a special summit, after talks with creditors again failed to achieve a breakthrough.

PNG to close Australian immigration centre

Papua New Guinea has announced the closure of a centre for asylum seekers sent by Australia, following a Supreme Court ruling that the detentions breached the country's constitution and would have to stop. Australia has ruled out accepting more than 800 men detained there under its controversial offshore processing policy.
