Rousseff appeals to Supreme Court

Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff has asked the Supreme Court to block impeachment proceedings against her in a final attempt to stop the process just hours before a crucial vote in the Senate. Rousseff has denied accusations that she tampered with government accounts to help secure her re-election in 2014. Supporters and opponents of the president have been making their voices heard. This man said: "there is a law and there's nothing that can be proven against the president. There is no decisive proof. And this is a coup." This man said "there's no party more corrupt than the Worker's Party. I'm 70 years old and there's no greater corruption than there is here."

UN appeal to protect civilians in Syria

UN war crimes investigators say countries backing Syria's peace process must stop the warring parties from attacking unlawful targets such as hospitals. The UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria said aerial bombardment, ground shelling and rocket fire had been consistently used in recent attacks on civilian areas.

50 killed in Baghdad attack

At least 50 people have been killed in a car bomb blast in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. Officials say dozens were wounded in the attack which was claimed by the Islamic State group.

Sanders beats Clinton in West Virginia

In the US presidential race, Bernie Sanders has won the West Virginia primary in the Democratic contest. His rival Hillary Clinton still has a clear overall lead. Addressing his supporters, Sanders said he was the best candidate to beat Donald Trump - the presumptive Republican nominee: "I say to the Democrats - who'll be convening in Philadelphia for the Convention in July - if you want the strongest candidate to defeat Donald Trump, that's us!"

Labour reform protests in France

There've been protests in France following the cabinet's decision to use special powers to pass controversial labour reforms. The government says they'll reduce unemployment. But opponents say they'll have a negative impact on workers' rights. Two centre-right opposition parties have called a vote of no confidence in the government for tomorrow.

German knife attacker had psychological problems

Officials in Germany say a man who stabbed four people at a train station near Munich yesterday was psychologically disturbed. One victim died in hospital, the other 3 are being treated for their wounds. A 27-year old man was taken into custody.
