EgyptAir plane wreckage found

Egyptian investigators say that wreckage from the EgyptAir flight that crashed in the Mediterranean last month has been found. There were 66 people on board when the aircraft went down while flying from Paris to Cairo. The Airbus A320 vanished from Greek and Egyptian radar screens, apparently without having sent a distress call.

Obama to pay respects after massacre in Orlando

The US President Barack Obama will visit Orlando, Florida, today to pay his respects to the victims of Sunday´s shooting rampage at a gay nightclub. It's still not clear what led the gunman Omar Mateen to open fire inside the club, killing 49 people and wounding over 50 others.

Filibuster in US Senate for more gun controls

A US Democratic senator has led a 14-hour filibuster in an attempt to force a vote on stricter gun control legislation following the Orlando massacre. Chris Murphy yielded the floor after saying he had won commitments from Republican leaders. Murphy spent much of the time speaking about the killing of 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in his home state of Connecticut: "It is devastating. It is devastating to the families who´ve lived through this trauma to watch the United States Senate do nothing, absolutely nothing, week after week. Think about that."

UN panel accuses IS of genocide against Yazidis

A UN investigative panel on Syria says the so-called Islamic State group is committing genocide and other war crimes against the Yazidi community in Iraq and Syria, and it wants more to be done to stop it. In its first report, the Council of Inquiry on Syria says the IS still holds over 3,200 Yazidi women and children. It also cited slave markets in Syria where Yazidi women and girls are sold exclusively to IS fighters.

Juncker to hold talks with Putin

The European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker says he expects a frank discussion when he meets the Russian leader Vladimir Putin today on the side lines of an economic forum in St. Petersburg. He also said Europe´s relations with Russia were not beyond repair. The EU imposed sanctions following Russia´s annexation of Crimea and its intervention in eastern Ukraine.

Russia “obstructs” drugs tests on athletes

The World Anti-Doping Agency says Russia has continued to obstruct efforts to carry out drugs tests on athletes. In a report issued ahead of a decision on whether they will be allowed to take part in the Rio Olympics, WADA said hundreds of tests had been declined or cancelled.

More violence at Euro 2016

Nearly 40 people have been arrested in the French city of Lille following clashes between police and hundreds of England fans at the Euro 2016 football tournament. Twenty Russian fans are also to be deported. Russia has summoned the French ambassador.
