German police investigate suspected suicide bombing

Officials in Bavaria say they are still trying to establish the motive behind Sunday night´s suspected suicide bombing in the city of Ansbach. A man killed himself and injured 12 others, after being refused entry to a musical festival attended by thousands of people. Officials say the contents of the man´s backpack had the potential to kill and injure many more. Ansbach resident Thomas Debinski says people were in panic: "The rumours that we were hearing were that it had been a gas explosion. But then people came past and said it was a rucksack that exploded definitely a rucksack that exploded. Someone blew themselves up."

A 16-year-old from Afghanistan has been detained by police in connection with a shooting rampage in Munich on Friday that killed nine people and left dozens wounded. The Afghan teenager is suspected of knowing about Sonboly´s plans and had met him shortly before the attack. Police say Sonboly was obsessed with mass killings but not inspired by Islamist militancy.
