Aleppo evacuations resume

Evacuations have resumed from eastern Aleppo, with buses and ambulances leaving rebel areas of the Syrian city. Turkish officials say four and a half thousand people have been taken out so far today. One doctor with the Independent Doctor's Association on the Turkish-Syrian border describes the condition of those who've been trapped in the city: "the main problem is trauma injuries because they've been under heavy bombardment for more than two months. We've had a lot of head injuries and one of the main problems that we're facing right now is malnutrition." The UN Security Council is expected to vote later today on a resolution which would deploy UN monitors to Aleppo.

Amnesty warns of atrocities against Rohingya

The leader of Myanmar Aung Aung San Suu Kyi is hosting foreign ministers of the south east Asian grouping ASEAN to discuss the plight of the country's Rohingya Muslim minority. Myanmar has come under pressure over alleged atrocities carried out by the army against the Rohingya. Amnesty International's Laura Haigh says there's evidence that the army is targeting civilians: "we've seen them target the Rohingya community on the basis of their identity - basically because they are Rohingya. And we've documented how they've randomly fired on and killed civilians as they've come into villages, raped women and girls, torched whole villages and have arbitrarily arrested waves of Rohingya men - without any information about where they are or what they're charged with." Myanmar has denied the accusations.

Dozens injured in Siberia plane crash

An aircraft belonging to Russia's defence ministry has crashed in Siberia injuring most of the 39 people on board according to officials. Reports say weather conditions were bad in the area when the plane came down.

Verdict due in Lagarde trial

The verdict is expected today in the trial of IMF head Christine Lagarde. The case concerns a 400 million Euro state compensation payment made to the businessman Bernard Tapie in 2008 when she was finance minister in President Nicolas Sarkozy's government. She's accused of negligence leading to misuse of public funds by approving a decision to allow an out-of-court settlement with Tapie. Lagarde has denied any wrongdoing.

Trump to be confirmed as President

The U.S. Electoral College is expected to officially select Donald Trump as the country's next president later today. The move will pave the way for him to be inaugurated on January 20th.
