Gija Kantscheli war ein kompositorischer Tausendsassa, der sich ganz bewusst einer Kategorisierung widersetzte. Das Oeuvre des georgischen Komponisten reicht vom Solowerk bis zur Oper und spricht viele stilistische Sprachen.
Den Großteil seines Lebens war Kantscheli dem Rustaweli-Theater in Tiflis verbunden, für das er zahlreiche Bühnenmusiken komponierte. Auch an vielen Filmproduktionen war er musikalisch beteiligt.
Mit dem Album "Poetry of silence" nähern sich Ketevan Sepashvili (Klavier), Madina Karbeli (Sopran) und Temo Kharshiladze (Flöte) ihrem 2019 verstorbenen Landsmann Kantscheli feinfühlig an. Den fünfundvierzig ausgewählten Miniaturen aus Film und Theater ist dabei vor allem eines gemeinsam: eine bezaubernde Schlichtheit.
