Es sind einige wenige große Technologieunternehmen, die den Großteil von digitalen Informationen halten und kontrollieren. Sie können somit auch bestimmen, wer Zugang zu Informationen bekommt und wer nicht. Oder, welche Nachrichten auf sozialen Medien aufscheinen und welche verborgen werden. Eine Macht, die das Potential besitzt Wahrnehmungen, Meinungen und Entscheidungen zu beeinflussen und wo es nicht nur darum geht, welche Informationen gefördert werden, sondern auch um das, was ausgefiltert wird und wer diese Entscheidungen trifft. Wie gehen die Gatekeeper mit ihrer Macht um? Wer kontrolliert sie? Welche Algorithmen bestimmen, was für Inhalte angezeigt werden und wie können wir sicherstellen, dass diese Prozesse fair und demokratisch sind?
Episode three: gatekeepers of the truth
A select few prominent technology corporations hold and exercise control over the vast majority of digital information. Consequently, they possess the authority to dictate who can access information and who cannot. They wield the power to determine which news articles appear on social media platforms and which remain concealed. This influence has the potential to shape perceptions, opinions, and decisions. It extends beyond the promotion of specific information, encompassing the selective filtering of content and the individuals responsible for making such choices. How do these gatekeepers wield their power? Who oversees their actions? Which algorithms dictate the display of content, and how can we ensure that these processes remain impartial and democratic?
