Die "Spring Symphony" op.44 als stimmungsvolles Riesenwerk

Die "Frühlingssymphonie" op. 44 komponierte Benjamin Britten 1948/49. Das Werk ist groß besetzt, mit Solisten, gemischtem Chor, Knabenchor und Orchester; es ist mehr Kantate als Symphonie. Als textliche Grundlage verwendete Britten Texte englischer Dichter vom 16. bis zum 20. Jahrhundert. Laut Worten des Komponisten stellt das Werk den Übergang vom Winter zum Frühling dar und das damit verbundene Wiedererwachen der Erde und des Lebens.
