27 killed in Baghdad attacks

More than 27 people have been killed and dozens wounded in two separate bombings in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. Police say they went off in a commercial street and at an army checkpoint. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attacks which come as Iraqi forces continue their campaign against IS militants in Falluja, the group's stronghold west of the capital.

Tight security in Tel Aviv after attack

Israel says it has suspended entry permits for 83,000 Palestinians after gunmen killed four people in an attack at an open-air complex in Tel Aviv. Two Palestinian suspects from the West Bank have been arrested. Police say security has been tightened in the city, mainly around the central bus station and train stations.

Obama and Sanders to meet

In the US, pressure is building on Bernie Sanders to give up his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. Yesterday, Hillary Clinton declared victory in the race, but Sanders says he will continue. He's due to meet President Barack Obama later today. Obama said he hoped the party would start pulling together, but added that the primaries had been a constructive process: "it was a healthy thing for the Democratic party to have a contested primary. I thought that Bernie Sanders brought enormous energy and new ideas and he pushed the party and challenged them. I thought it made Hillary a better candidate."

Confusion in Italy over extradited suspect

Friends of an Eritrean man who's been extradited to Italy from Sudan on suspicion of people smuggling say police have the wrong person. Italian prosecutors have been seeking Mered Medhanie who's said to be a ringleader of an operation to smuggle migrants from Africa to Europe. But some of the friends of the man who was actually extradited say there's been a case of mistaken identity.

Questions over presidential ceremony schedule

Austrian President Heinz Fischer says he hopes that the swearing in of president-elect Alexander Van der Bellen will take place as scheduled on July 8th in spite of a legal challenge being mounted by the Freedom Party. Yesterday, the FPÖ announced it was contesting the results of the poll because of what it said were numerous irregularities in the counting of the postal votes during the run-off on May 22nd.
