FPÖ challenges presidential election result

Austria's Constitutional Court has confirmed that the Freedom Party has lodged an official complaint challenging the results of the presidential election. The FPÖ has filed a document listing examples of what it said were numerous irregularities at several polling stations. It focuses mainly on the counting of postal votes in the May 22nd run-off between their candidate Norbert Hofer and the former Greens party leader Alexander Van der Bellen, who was declared the winner. The court now has a month to decide whether the law was broken, and if possible breaches would affect the outcome of the election.

Clinton declares historic victory

Hillary Clinton has declared victory in her campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, saying she had made history as the first woman to lead a major party in the race for the White House. President Obama has congratulated her, saying her historic campaign has inspired millions. Addressing her supporters in Brooklyn, Clinton focused her attention on the Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump: "We believe that we are stronger together, and the stakes in this election are high, and the choice is clear. Donald Trump is temperamentally unfit to be president and commander-in-chief." Her Democratic rival, Bernie Sanders, said he would continue to fight at the final primary in Washington DC. He said he'd laid the groundwork for a progressive future: "If this campaign has proven anything, it's proven that millions of Americans who love this country are prepared to stand up and fight to make this country a much better place!"

Turkish police station hit by car bomb

A car bomb has exploded at a police headquarters in Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast. Two police officers are reported to have died, and a number of people were injured in the attack in the town of Midyat, just north of the Syrian border. The blast comes a day after 11 people were killed in a bomb attack on a bus in Istanbul.

Police fire on Papua New Guinea protest

Four people are reported to have been killed and several injured in Papua New Guinea, after police opened fire on students holding a protest in the capital Port Moresby. The students were marching towards parliament, where the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill was due to face a vote of no confidence. He's been accused of corruption, which he denies.

People-smuggling suspect extradited

An Eritrean man suspected of running a major people-smuggling network has been extradited to Italy from Sudan. Prosecutors say he was the head of one of the most important criminal groups operating in central Africa and Libya, which smuggled migrants into Europe.
