Als "the unsinkable Dolly Parton" hat sie das "Rolling Stone"-Magazin bereits 1980 bezeichnet. Die heute 72-Jährige ist die am meisten geehrte weibliche Countryfigur aller Zeiten. Mit 13 debütierte sie in Nashville an der Grand Ole Opry, der heiligen Halle der Countrymusik. Damit legte die aus ärmlichen Verhältnissen in Tennesse stammende Dolly Parton den Grundstein zu ihrer einzigartigen Karriere als Sängerin, Komponistin, Produzentin und Geschäftsfrau. 1999 wurde sie in die Country Hall of Fame aufgenommen und hat mit Dollywood ihren eigenen Themenpark erschaffen. Mehr als 3.000 Songs hat sie geschrieben, darunter die unverwüstlichen Hits wie "Jolene", "9 to 5" - aus dem ein Musical entstand - oder "I will always love you"- mit dem Whitney Houston 1992 einen Welterfolg landete. Mit unzähligen Größen der Country-, Pop- und Bluegrass-Szene hat sie zusammengearbeitet. Neben ihrer unverkennbar immer jungen Stimme ist es immer noch ihre Erscheinung - Wespentaille, Oberweite und blondierte Mähne, die einen prägenden Eindruck hinterlässt.
