Am 19. Jänner 2023 hätte die im Oktober 1970 verstorbene US-Sängerin Janis Joplin ihren 80. Geburtstag gefeiert. Trotz ihres recht exzessiven Lebenswandels war sie live eine der besten Performer:innen ihrer Generation.
Das Doppelalbum "In Concert" wurde 1972 posthum veröffentlicht. Der erste Teil enthält Auftritte mit Big Brother and the Holding Company, der Band, die sie berühmt gemacht hat. Die meisten dieser Liveaufnahmen, unter anderem von "Piece of My Heart", entstanden 1968 in San Francisco.
Im zweiten Teil dieser Compilation sind Aufnahmen von Janis Joplin mit der kanadischen Full Tilt Boogie Band zu hören. Diese Konzerte fanden in ihrem Todesjahr 1970 in Toronto und Calgary statt und enthalten - nebst anderem - eine hörenswerte Version des "Kozmic Blues".
Salut an eine Hippie-Ikone aus dem berühmt-berüchtigten "Club 27" der Rockmusiker:innen, die den 28. Geburtstag nicht erlebt haben.
